On September 12, NR's Ebenezer Paintsil publicly defends his doctoral dissertation for the degree Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) in Information Security at the Gjøvik University College. Title of the dissertation is «Privacy and Security Risks Analysis of Identity Management Systems». NR's Senior Research Scientist Lothar Fritsch was his principal supervisor.

Forsker grand prix er forskningsformidlingens grand prix.  Ti Ph.d/dr. philos-kandidater blir drillet i å presentere forskningen sin og kjemper om dommernes og publikums stemmer. Vinneren blir kåret til den beste forskningsformidleren i Oslo og Akershus, og representerer Oslo og Akershus i den nasjonale finalen 28. september.

Fra NR deltar Marie Lilleborge med foredraget  "Ta kontroll over tilfeldighetene". Det hele foregår på Sentrum Scene tirsdag 24. september fra kl. 18:00. Arrangementet er gratis, og du trenger ikke billett.

Fredag 20. september kl. 09.00 – 16.00 og lørdag 21. september kl. 10.00 – 17.00 er det Forskningtorg på Universitetsplassen på Karl Johan, og NR deltar.

Universell utforming innebærer mer enn å overholde WCAG-retningslinjene. Man må ta hensyn til universell utforming gjennom hele utviklingsprosessen for å oppnå tilgjengelige løsninger. På frokostseminaret vil NRs eksperter på området presentere erfaringer fra forskjellige stadier i ulike prosjekter.

Inspirert av den amerikanske bloggeren og statistikeren Nate Silver har forskere ved Norsk Regnsentral laget en statistisk modell for det norske stortingsvalget i 2013. Modellen er basert på historiske meningsmålinger for stortingsvalgene i 2005 og 2009. Prognosen er et veid gjennomsnitt av mange justerte meningsmålinger fra flere institutter.

Fra modellen beregner vi hvor stor sannsynligheten er for flertall for de ulike regjeringsalternativene og antall nesten sikre og usikre mandater. Prognosen vil oppdateres jevnlig fram mot valget på prosjektets nettside 169.no

June 11, 2013 NR’s Ingrid Hobæk Haff received the Norwegian Statistical Association’s Sverdrup award for young researchers 2013 for the article «Parameter estimation for pair-copula constructions», doi: 10.3150/12-BEJ413.

Ingrid Hobæk Haff works as research scientist at Norsk Regnesentral, department SAMBA. The article is part of her PhD dissertation «Pair-copula constructions – an inferential perspective» and was published in the renowned journal Bernoulli.

This workshop focuses on the prediction of effects of climate change in various branches of the Nordic economy and society.

The workshop will be an occasion for stakeholders, statisticians and climate scientists to review the current understanding of climate change effects in key areas of the Nordic societies, and to start designing the research road map needed to reach a more precise understanding of future scenarios, with realistic measures of uncertainty, thus empowering business, technology and political decision makers with precise assessment of risk.

The workshop will be held at Norsk Regnesentral, Oslo, and is open to all participants, with no registration fee. Read more about the workshop and for registration.

In the research project uTRUSTit, we look at users’ trust to different “things” that will communicate over the Internet of Things.

The user evaluations consisted of several scenarios where a user would do some task with the help of the Internet of Things. The prototypes should give users a better overview and control over where information goes over the Internet. The net surplus for 2012 was 3.5 million NOK and income from operations was 1.4 million NOK. The financial position of NR is good with equity of 67.4 million NOK and an equity ratio of 72 %.

A large number of projects were carried out at the Norwegian Computing Center (NR) in 2012. Industry and commerce financed 40 % of NR’s projects, while the Research Council of Norway contributed with 37 %, the public sector provided 12 %, and international projects financed 11%.
