New research scientist has joined NR - Martin Kermit
Martin Kermit has joined the NR as senior research scientist at SAMBA, the department of Statistical Analysis, Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis, section Earth Observation.
Martin Kermit has a Master’s degree in applied physics from The Arctic University of Norway, where his thesis focused on simulation of biological neural networks. He continued his academic career at the IT-department at the Østfold University College and later on he also achieved a phd degree specializing on artificial neural networks at the Department for Informatics at the University of Oslo. Kermit has also worked as a postdoc at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
In the private sector, Kermit worked for several years at the software company CAMO developing multivariate statistical tools, held courses and did statistical consultancy. For the last six years, Kermit was employed as the technical manager at Tomra Sorting, developing sensor based solutions for waste sorting and process analytics.
At NR Martin Kermit will mainly work with problems related to forest and nature monitoring, image processing, pattern recognition and multivariate analysis.
