New research scientist and PhD fellow have joined SAMBA
NR continues to strengthen the staff. After the summer holliday, two new research scientists have joined our research department SAMBA; Claudio Heinrich and Qinghui (Brian) Liu.
Claudio Heinrich has a Master's degree in Mathematics from Heidelberg University, Germany. He defended his PhD thesis in mathematics in June 2017 at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. In his thesis he developed limit theorems for ambit fields, which is a stochastic model used for modelling velocities in turbulent flows.
At NR, Claudio will statistically adjust numerical weather forecasts in order to correct for systematic biases and misrepresentation of the forecast uncertainty.
Brian Liu holds a M.Sc. in systems engineering with embedded systems from the University College of Southeast Norway (USN) and a M.Sc. in Control Theory and Control Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China). He used to work in GE Healthcare China as a software engineer for 3 years in charge of embedded systems development for patient monitor solutions. His master thesis at USN (2017) was focusing on deep learning applied to automatic polyp detection in colonoscopy images.
After graduating from USN, Brian LiU joined NR and will continue to work on deep learning techniques applied to remote sensing data analysis. His PhD thesis will, among other topics, focus on multi-view objects detection, instance-aware segmentation, multi-resolution data fusion and domain adaption into remote sensing images.
