Ship and Oil Spill Alarm Service: The idea is to integrate ship detection, oil spill detection, information about installations (oilrigs, sea farms, etc.), economical zones data and fishery zone data in one service. The service will be based on SAR data and GIS information from national authorities. The service could also be extended to use information from the Automatic Information System (AIS). Note that the AIS option is very dependent on AIS data availability and that it can be published in the portal.
Automatic Multi-Source Time-Series Analysis: In this service automatic multi-source time-series analysis is performed. Thus the history of the detected oil spills is preserved. This is accomplished by integrating the information from previous oil spill detection analysis, regardless of the SAR mission, with the current oil spill detection analysis. 'Old' oil spills tend to keep the same shape (or dissolve gradually over some hours). If detected in several consecutive images, this would improve the confidence level of the detection. This could also be used to plot the drift of the oil spills. In addition, the service improves the performance of the current oil spill detection service since results from both Envisat and Radarsat would be included. Detection results, that otherwise only would have be seen in either Envisat or Radarsat images, will now be integrated.
EuroClim Cryospheric Climate Monitoring Service: The main objective of the EuroClim project was to develop and validate an advanced system for climate monitoring and prediction for the support of a sustainable development and protection of the environment in Europe. The system focused on global warming and the consequences thereof based on observations of the European cryosphere. Snow and ice variables are extracted and processed by advanced sensor technology and algorithms and applied in a regional climate model and statistical models in order to predict changes and run scenario analyses. The backbone of the EuroClim system (www.euroclim.net) is already implemented as SOAP services. Therefore, most of the work in this project is related to design and development of XSD and XSL for the SSE Portal and Toolbox.
