After the summer holliday, two new research scientists have joined our research department SAMBA; NIkolai Sellereite og Tor Arne Øigård.

Nikolai Sellereite recently completed a Master's degree in statistics at the University of Bergen, with insurance as the main field. During his time in Bergen he also worked part-time at the insurance company Tryg Forsikring. 

At NR Nikolai will focus on research related to bank, finance and insurance.

Tor Arne Øigård has a Master’s degree in applied physics from the University of Tromsø (UIT) with focus on statistical signal processing. He worked on classification and detection using higher order statistics and in his thesis he worked on modelling of impulsive and skewed stochastic processes with applications on noise in radar and sonar. He achieved his PhD degree in statistics at UIT, where he developed tools for time series analysis of non-Gaussian, non-stationary processes, and fractional Brownian motions with applications on internet traffic data, earthquake data and ice core data. After his PhD he had a postdoc position at the Department of Physics, UIT where he worked on time-frequency analysis of multivariate multidimensional non-Gaussian inhomogeneous random fields.

He has since 2006 worked at the Institute of Marine Research as a senior research scientist where he developed population dynamics models for seals, developed methods for precise abundance estimation of seals, and  modelling of salmon lice.

At NR Tor Arne will work on environmental statistics, impacts of climate change and be a part of the institutes new Centre for Research-based Innovation - Big-Insight - where he will work on statistical methods for detection of fraud in financial data.
