New PhD fellow has joined SAMBA

Nina Schuhen joined our research department SAMBA December 1, 2016 as a PhD fellow.PhD fellow Nina Schuhen.

Nina Schuhen has a Diplom in Mathematics from Heidelberg University in Germany, specializing in Applied Statistics and Probabilistic Forecasting. Her thesis proposed a bivariate framework for the statistical post-processing of wind vector forecasts. Since 2012, she has been a researcher at two European national meteorological services, the German Deutscher Wetterdienst and the UK Met Office, developing and implementing statistical methods for the improvement of deterministic and probabilistic weather forecasts.

Nina will continue to work on weather forecasting at NR, and her PhD thesis will, amongst other things, involve the use of statistics to enhance consistency between forecast update cycles.
