Life cycle of reusable bottles
Life cycle of reusable bottles
Norsk Resirk operates the refundable deposit scheme for cans and non-refillable plastic bottles in Norway. Recycling reduces the amount of new oil and primary aluminium being used.
An interesting factor is the number of times a bottle is reused. Some bottles are not returned by the consumer and other bottles are succumbed to wear and tear. Modelling the life cycle of bottles forms some of the basis to evaluate the effect of the amount of recyclable material in beverage container deposits. NR has modelled the return rate together with Norsk Resirk, where we have used simulation based methods. The method is related to lifetime analysis, which is often used in medicine and reliability analysis.
