New Research Scientists have joined SAND

During the summer, three new research scientists have joined SAND; Charlotte Sanchis, Vegard Berg Kvernelv, and Ingrid Aarnes.

Charlotte Sanchis

Charlotte Sanchis has a master degree in applied physics from Grenoble Institute of Technology, France, with specialization in cybernetics and signal processing. After two years in R&D department at Fugro Satellite Positioning in Oslo, she took a PhD in physics at the University of Tromsø in collaboration with the seismic services company Fugro Geoteam. Her thesis focused on noise detection and classification as well as the development of signal processing methods to attenuate noise in seismic data.

After PhD, Charlotte worked in marine R&D at Fugro Geoteam and later in CGG. In her position, she developed new signal and data processing methods of seismic data to adopt new technology, get better seismic images, and more effective seismic data acquisition.

At NR Charlotte will develop software and methods related to seismic inversion.

Vegard Berg KvernelvVegard Berg Kvernelv has a Master’s degree in Industrial Mathematics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), with further specialization in numerical optimization. Since 2013 he has worked as a research scientist at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment.

At NR, his work will primarily be related to modelling and simulation of geological surfaces and faults.

Ingrid AarnesIngrid Aarnes holds a PhD from Physics of Geological Processes, a Center of Excellence at University of Oslo, where she developed numerical methods to estimate the amount of carbon gases that can be released to the atmosphere in a setting where large igneous provinces intrude organic rich source rocks in sedimentary basins, - with possible implications for the global climate.

She has six years of experience from the oil industry, where she among others has worked as a consultant for Roxar, a software company responsible for development of the reservoir modeling and simulation tools RMS, Tempest and Mette. She has experience from providing service and support to clients such as Statoil, Maersk and BP, in addition to giving lectures and software testing. Key topics have included modeling of spatial description of reservoir structure and stochastic modeling of reservoir facies, including capturing and quantifying the associated uncertainties. The last year she worked as a project leader for Big Loop – a solution aimed at connecting and automating the workflow from geophysics through geomodelling to reservoir flow simulation, with the goal of a more consistent description of total uncertainty and more robust predictions, and hence decisions, related to future production and development of the reservoirs.

At NR Ingrid will work with implementation and development of stochastic methods for geological facies descriptions.
