The overall objective of the SeaU project is to improve the current state-of-the art methodology for satellite based oil spill detection and to demonstrate through deliveries to existing and new users how these improvements can contribute to the development of sustainable downstream service.

NR's main focus is on deriving multisensor oil spill detection algorithms, whose objectives may be summarized as:

• Determine the optimal operation SAR data (the combination of beam, resolution and polarization) for oil pollution detection and classification.
• Improve oil spill detection and classification by the use of other information sources, including optical data, ocean colour data, wind and sea current data, AIS data, and oil spill statistics.
