Bank and finance
Bank and finance is an increasing sector in Norway. The sector becomes more and more quantitatively oriented and more research based. This contributes to better decisions, controlled risk, improved efficiency of capital and staff, improved security, and more user friendly solutions. NR has a large variety of projects within the sector, both in statistics and ICT.
Research areas
We use statistical methods to quantify all kinds of risk in the banking, insurance and commodity markets. We work a lot with models related to Basel II and Solvency II and have developed a large number of systems related to trading and risk management for various power companies.

The focus is to include as many as possible in the information society. We study barriers and opportunities for different user groups, e.g. people with visual or hearing impairment, and people with cognitive deficits.

Digital technology in society relies on functionality providing security and protection of privacy. At NR we work with advanced technologies for specification, implementation and validation of solutions that ensure both appropriate and reliable security properties.

Smart sensing uses data captured from sensors and other sources to create value in a variety of application areas. We work with understanding user behaviour and applications in health care and welfare, intelligent transport systems, electrical grids, and smart cities.

This center for research-based-innovation is funded by the Research Council of Norway. Big Insight produces innovative solutions for key challenges facing our consortium of private, public and research partners, by developing original statistical and machine learning methodologies.
