Oil spill detection at NR

NR has more than 20 years of experience with R&D on automatic oil-spill detection, and is one of the pioneers on this subject. The first prototype system for automated detection was developed as part of the national oil spill project and delivered to KSAT in the late 1990s. NR has lead and participated in several other national and international projects for development and testing of methodology for automated oil-spill detection, including the EU FP projects

  • OCEANIDES (2003 - 2005) - Harmonised monitoring, reporting, and assessment of illegal marine oil discharges
  • SeaU,  (2011 - 2013) - Multisensor Satellite Technologies for Oil Pollution Monitoring and Source Identification

NR has also worked with oil-spill detection from sensors mounted on oil drilling platforms where NR developed a system for automated detection of oil spills based on a multi-sensor approach
